While the English Language is mostly rule based, there are some words that just don't follow any of these rules and generalizations.  We call these words non-phonetic or "Sight Words" and we teach kids that these words can't be sounded out and need to be memorized.  How we teach these words, in comparison to phonetic words, is very different.  This Sight Word Deck has 97 of the first sight words kids are taught.  They are in alphabetical order and should be printed in red as the red printing serves as a memory prompt for learners to remind them that these words can't be sounded out.
