Although I've heard other methods  - I've found them to be mostly ineffective.  My method for teaching printing is highly successful because:
 
it teaches explicitly how to form each letter
it removes all guess work as to where the letters are supposed to sit on the lines through a fun and relateable analogy
it incorporates ALL the learning modalities (visual, auditory, tactile & kinesthetic) simultaneously - meaning it works for ALL abilities and learning styles
